After School Club
Last Week we were working with the After School Club to understand the term Homelessness. Through discussions with young people it was apparent their concept of homelessness was very misconstrued.
We proceeded to look at what a hostels is, describing and looking at the different purposes of hostels, as well as looking at our nearest hostel to us. It was quite surprising for the young people, just how close a hostel is to Dragon Hall, that hostel being St Mungo’s in Endell Street, Covent Garden.
After talking through the work that St Mungo’s does young people and staff decided it would be good to get some food together to take to St Mungo’s as a donation. So on Tuesday young people broke into three groups to create a shopping list and roles for themselves, including a financial advisor, consultant and packer. This was a really good way for young people to take control of this part of the session. Young people had a budget of £14 each to spend on different groceries, which were then taken to St Mungo’s by the young people.
This was a really great couple of sessions with young people learning something new but also getting a greater understanding of others. Hopefully this can become a regular session.
