Tuesday 14th April 2020 – Day Twenty Two

Good afternoon all, apologies for the late update. I have been a bit lax with my admin duties of late, and needed to sort out my emails and messages etc! My to-do list was looking a bit of a mess too, so that needed tidying up!

It was lovely to have read the email from Sheila who let me know how she was making the best of this difficult time: here are just some of the things that she was focusing on, while we are in lockdown:-

Sleeping (a lot) —
Working out —
Journaling —
Learning a skill —
Making a financial strategy —
Listening to music —
Reading —
Laughing —
Meditating —

What have YOU been doing, please share with me, would love to hear from you

What can I share with you today? – FOOD / SHOPPING
From Chris:
Morrisons and Deliveroo Join up to Offer Grocery Home Delivery. The service will be available from more than 130 Morrisons stores across the UK and covers one in four households – Customers will be able to order from 70 essential household items for on-demand delivery in as little as under 30 minutes

From Phil: Limit for contactless spending to rise to £45 at beginning of April. Retailers say changes, designed to cut the need for contact, may take time to be implemented everywhere, however, the last contactless limit increase to £30 took two years to implement but, given the extraordinary circumstances we face today, this new £45 limit will be rolled out from next week.

More information:

From Sue: Hi, great news! The Paper Shop on Southampton Row has reopened. I just got a message from them. If anyone shops, lives near or is interested in helping reopen Southampton Row, please call in there. It is in the first block of Southampton Row north of Theobalds Road. It is a news agency with loads of convenience items. It has been there for years. This is a life changer for me.

ART & CULTURE – From Sue: May I recommend the film, The Lavender Hill Mob, one of the old Ealing Studios ones. It is available on BBC iPlayer. Not as good as my favourite The LadyKillers, but still fun. I grow weary of doom and gloom. Do you have a movie that you would recommend? If so please share? And let me know why it’s a personal favourite.

From Theresa: On Easter Sunday (April 12, 2020), by invitation of the City and of the Duomo cathedral of Milan, Italian global music icon Andrea Bocelli gave a solo performance representing a message of love, healing and hope to Italy and the world.

HEALTH – From Gill: A timely reminder to look after your health and the things that you can control and the things you should let go!

From Dominic: – The Larder by Vicki Feaver

Turned seventy, and not wanting
to waste the days left, half-asleep,
I’m stocking the shelves of a larder.

Each day is an empty jar to fill:
yesterday, with the silvery teeth
on a leaf-lichen; the day before,

With a thin mist rolling slowly
across the valley, fading a line
of beeches to pencilled ghosts.

Today it’s the powdery bloom
on the skin of a blueberry;
turning it, cold from the fridge,

between my thumb and finger;
noting the petal-shaped crater
where the flower shrivelled,

a small hole where it was pulled
from the stalk, crushing
its tangy pulp on my tongue.

Lastly if anyone is keeping a journal, could they share this with me? It would be interesting in the weeks to come and to look back on. If you are interested in keeping a journal and record your thoughts, please let me know if I can help

Thank you to everyone who has so far completed our survey, we have nearly 150 responses. It makes for interesting reading so far, and will be a great help to the team as we navigate the next three weeks of isolation!

If you have not done so already, please could you take the time to complete the questionnaire, your suggestions, comments, ideas are really important and useful to us.

Today Amber is on duty – her number is 07715580216, and you can contact me ANY TIME on 07759 646507 in case of an emergency
