ART & CULTURE

From Theresa:

Queen Victoria’s sapphire and diamond coronet. Prince Albert designed the piece for Victoria in 1840, in the couple’s royal wedding year. The coronet is widely considered to represent their successful artistic collaboration and their love.

Designed by Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s sapphire and diamond coronet was one of the most important jewels of the young queen. In 1842 she wore it in a famous portrait by Franz Xaver Winterhalter. In 1866, on the first occasion she felt able to face the ordeal of the Opening of Parliament after Albert’s death, she chose to wear the coronet he had designed for her.

An interesting article: How humans have reacted to pandemics through history – a visual guide. Infectious diseases have wreaked havoc on human communities since ancient times.

Our journey through the ages looks at the spread of disease in three case studies, and then explores a historical view on how we think about pandemics today.

From Marcel:

Marcel Would like to share this poem which is perfect for that feeling when some days feel more difficult than others

The Mountain isn’t going anywhere, you can climb it when you are ready:

If the mountain seems too big today

then climb a hill instead

if the morning brings you sadness

it’s ok to stay in bed

if the day ahead weighs heavy

and your plans feel like a curse

there’s no shame in rearranging

don’t make yourself feel worse

if a shower stings like needles

and a bath feels like you’ll drown

if you haven’t washed your hair for days

don’t throw away your crown

a day is not a lifetime

a rest is not defeat

don’t think of it as failure

just a quiet, kind retreat

it’s ok to take a moment

from an anxious, fractured mind

the world will not stop turning

while you get realigned

the mountain will still be there

when you want to try again

you can climb it in your own time

just love yourself til then.

Shared by Jean – today’s wisdom and humour:

Most of the generation of 60+ were HOMESCHOOLED in many ways

11. My mother taught me about WEATHER .

“This room of yours looks as if a tornado went through it.”

12. My mother taught me about HYPOCRISY .

“If I told you once, I’ve told you a million times, don’t exaggerate!”
