Jersey Tech Fair
This weekend Dragon Hall went to the Jersey Tech Fair to deliver some of our Tech Sessions – Friday 6th and Saturday 7th November 2015 at Fort Regent, St Helier.
The event was free for all attendees, with the Friday having a school’s focus. There were a range of primary and secondary schools in attendance from across the island.
During the Friday Dragon Hall were not only running Discovery Sessions in the main auditorium but were running concurrent Minecraft on Raspberry Pi and 3D Printing Sessions, as well as Internet Radio and Coding on Scratch workshops. These were well attended sessions with young people all getting to take home a robot each from the 3D printing groups.
Whilst the radio group were creating a radio show around the Jersey Tech Fair, interviewing different speakers or stall holders as well as discussing the tech available. The day finished with a really good vibe with many young people learning about new pieces of tech available to them and what possibilities there are within technology.
Then came the open day, this was the Saturday event with many of the same exhibitors but different speakers. We again ran 3D printing sessions, Coding Sessions, Minecraft on Raspberry Pi and Internet Radio Workshops. These sessions were extremely oversubscribed which even though in the moment felt overwhelming, it’s great to think that there’s that many people looking to get involved in different tech, especially considering many of the young people or adults had never coded or used the software we used. We made sure we could accommodate as many people as possible with most sessions running over their allotted time to fit everyone in.
We had a really great weekend, talking to different people in the industry and meeting some great people. We would like to thank Emma Turner for inviting us to the Tech Fair and to KPMG for sponsoring our workshops and visit.
