Thursday 14th January 2021
Good morning all,
What a cold and grey morning it is. As I look out the window the rain is coming down so hard again the window that I am reminded of the quote that my sister used to share with me; “Rain is just confetti from the sky”. Peggy was always a very optimistic and positive person!
Do you have a favourite quote you would like to share and why?
WHAT CAN I SHARE WITH YOU TODAY?
Welcome to Halema!
Amber and I are very pleased to introduce you to Halema Hussain, who is going to be working with us for a couple of months. In her own words:
Hello! My name is Halema and I am currently a year 2 student at Goldsmiths university of London and I am studying Applied Social science: Community Development And Youth Work. I have just joined the organisation and I am currently a volunteer for the trust. I will be working with the organisation over the next few months.
I am absolutely delighted to be working with all of you and I will be running some zoom sessions over the next few weeks (exciting!) I will also be carrying out a small-scale research project in the next few weeks and I would definitely be delighted to have everyone to be involved!

Zoom Presentation: The scientific method and the anti-vax movement as an example of anti-science thinking
Saturday 23rd January, 2pm
At this critical time in the Covid pandemic, Stuart Sweeney will talk about scientific method, the anti-vax movement as an example of anti-science thinking and how to convince the vaccine hesitant to help in ending the pandemic. He will provide a background of how scientific theories are tested; problems that arise for science; the origins of vaccination and the testing of vaccines; the anti-vax movement in the UK and USA and reasons for people to choose not to be vaccinated.
After studying Maths and Physics, Stuart taught Maths to Advanced Level and after gaining an MSc in Management Science joined a bank in a management consultancy role. He has retained his interest in scientific method and anti-science conspiracy thinking.
